Balancing Life, Law, and Lifelong Learning
When you’re a lawyer in the fast-moving world of healthcare compliance, “staying current” isn’t just a good idea—it’s survival. Regulations change, standards evolve, and clients need to know you’re the one who can navigate the storm. Add in being a mom to the mix, and suddenly the storm comes with snack requests, last-minute homework projects, and the occasional meltdown (theirs and mine).
So, why in the world would I sign up for even *more* certifications? Because growth matters—professionally and personally.
The Power of “Yes, I Can”
Every new certification isn’t just a piece of paper; it’s proof that I can adapt. It’s about building credibility in an industry where clients need reassurance that their lawyer is as committed to staying compliant as they are. And let’s be honest—it feels pretty darn good to master something new.
Mom-Life Lessons in Compliance
Funny enough, parenting and compliance have a lot in common:
Anticipating risks (if you’ve ever been around any toddlers you now they are walking OSHA violations).
Documenting everything (if it’s not written down, did it really happen?).
Staying flexible (because whether it’s a new federal rule or a 5-year-old refusing shoes, you need a backup plan).
The more certifications I pursue, the more I realize that learning isn’t separate from my life as a mom—it complements it.
Making It Work (Without Losing My Sanity)
Do I wake up before anyone else is awake just to study in peace? Absolutely. Have I reviewed case studies in the school pickup line? Guilty. But instead of seeing it as a burden, I view it as an investment. The extra effort now makes me sharper, faster, and more confident in both courtrooms and classrooms (the ones where I sit in the back with other parents).
Why I’ll Keep Learning
Pursuing new certifications isn’t about chasing titles. It’s about proving to myself, my clients, and yes—even my daughter—that learning doesn’t stop once you’ve “made it.” If anything, that’s when the real learning begins.
If you’re a professional, a parent, or both—don’t be afraid to add another challenge to your plate. You might just surprise yourself with how much you can handle (and how strong your coffee game can get).
